Charvet
Sofia Coppola's favorite shirts are the ones made by Charvet. “Char-what?” Yes, honestly that was my reaction. Let me speak the truth if you had the same thought. Charvet is a French high-end shirt maker and tailor. My research indicates that Charvet has supplied bespoke shirts to kings, princes, and heads of state since the 19th century. We’re talking John F. Kennedy, Gary Cooper, and King Edward VII; even Coco Chanel was frequently seen in her custom Charvet shirts. The stand-up turn-down shirt collar, referred to as the H.R.H. collar, all Charvet! Basically what I’m getting at is that Charvet is the world’s first source for élégance and it is no surprise that as a member of Hollywood’s royalty, Sofia considers this label one of her favorites. Equally unsurprising is her close relationship with one half of the luxury brand’s creative force, Anne-Marie Colban. Together they discuss fabric blends, textures, and patterns in order to create the quintessential Sofia shirt. In her own words, "I love ordering shirts there with Anne-Marie Colban. She has great taste and is a perfectionist. I like to have a bunch when I’m shooting so I don’t have to think about what I’m wearing." The director simply throws on a Charvet shirt, a pair of Acne jeans, her Persol sunnies, and it’s lights... camera... action!
